WIND POWER
Wind power generated electricity from an appliance called wind turbines. A wind turbine is developed from the windmill, wind turbines is used to generate electricity from an electrical generator. People are usually mystify the model of wind turbines and a fan. The different between these two is that fan requires electricity to produce wind but wind turbine needs the wind to generate electricity.
Wind turbines generate the electricity by using four consisting of propellers which result kinetic energy in wind as a product from the wind power. The turbine is connected to a generator and uses wind as a mechanical power implement to pump water and grind grain. Once the wind proceed the turbines, the blades move and spins the shaft. There are two types of wind turbines which is presently use, the horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) or the vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT). However, the horizontal axis wind turbines are more likely to be common used.
Wind turbines consist of four key parts, foundation, tower, nacelle and blades. The foundation jobs is to hold the turbine in place in the ground. Tower is use to keep the generation and equipment high above the ground. Nacelle is where the generator, gearbox and rotor are held and blades handle the weather conditions.
The explanation to the question when asked if wind turbine is safe is that in every wind turbine, it retain an internal computer system which is use to monitors the speed of the wind and the direction. The system mechanically set up itself to function safely. As technology is developed, safety should not be a big concern as the turbine will be shutting down automatically whenever the computer notice that there is something wrong going on.

WIND ENERGY ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE:
ADVANTAGES:
1. Wind energy do not produce and pollution. wind energy is a green energy and does not produce any pollution that may impact human being in negative ways. 2. Tidal waves is a renewable sources The resources can be reused and re-generate. This reduce the cost of construction for the wind turbines. 3.Environmental friendly Wind turbines do not put any harm or danger for the environment and it is safe to use. 4. Longer life spans Produce small amount of waste 5. Power can be generate everywhere at any time. As long as there is wind, power can be generated. |
DISADVANTAGES:
1. Unpredictable
Electricity can be generate through wind turbines only when there is a lot of wind. 2. The price of wind turbines to be install is high The financial incentives is heavy for both small and large wind turbines. 3. Wildlife intimidation Wind turbines may causes harm to flying creatures as they may accidentally fly into wind turbines. 4. Unappealing and noisy It is important to select the right wind turbines as wind turbines does create turbulent sound. As well as the look of wind energy which is not so aesthetics. |
ENVIRONMENT IMPLICATION:
Wind turbines are usually encourage to be placed in flat areas rather than hilly areas. However, installing wind turbines in hilly areas is adequate. Wind turbines must be spaced around at least 5 rotor diameters apart which signify that it will certainly takes up a lot of space for the wind turbines to be installed. Other than that, wind turbines is noted to have impact on wildlife and flying creatures. A recent National Wind Coordinating Committee (NWCC) revealed that bird and bats are found slain from collisions with wind turbines. As the atmosphere in that time period is not agreeable, there were changes in air pressure which caused by habitat disruption and spinning turbines. However, the National Wind Coordinating Committee terminated that the impact on the wildlife from wind turbines are comparatively low and the problem will be solve as the technology continues to develop.
Sound is one of the big concern that public health and community association takes it seriously. Wind turbines generate two types of sound while function, aerodynamic and mechanical sound. Aerodynamic is the sound that is generated by wind turbines whereas caused from the move of turbine blades while it spin the shaft in the air. The turbine itself generated mechanical sound and the sound levels is depend on wind speed. Although wind turbines generated noise and racket sounds, the government sponsored studies in Canada and Australia observed that these noise do not impact public health in any way. Moreover, as the new design of wind turbines is being used, the noises that wind turbines make decreased which prove how technology will surely overcome this issue sooner or later.
Lastly, water do not effect the operation of wind turbines in any way as only manufacture steel and cement for wind turbines requires water to process. Moreover, as wind turbines do not create any global warming emissions, we can ensure that emissions that is affiliate with other phase of wind turbine's life cycle such as materials transportation or decommissioning and dismantlement is safe to the environment.
